For those facing a run of bad luck and wanting to start things over, one Thai temple has an unusual solution: "rehearse" death with a mock funeral, including lying down in a coffin.

Pram Manee temple in Nakorn Nayok province, 107 km northeast of Bangkok, holds two of the rituals every day: at exactly 9:09 a.m. and 1:09 p.m., since the number nine is believed by Thais to bring good luck.

Participants in a recent ritual stood in front of their designated coffins, holding flowers and praying for bad luck to go away, then asked to receive good luck.

All had paid 180 baht ($6) for the flowers, a white sheet and "merit set" -- a collection of necessities sometimes including toothpaste, toothbrushes and food -- to be offered to monks, and the promise of a better life.

"First we pray for the 'dead,' to wash away the bad things. They will go away when the monk draws a sheet over the coffin," said Rin Manaboom, a monk at the temple who conducts the ceremonies.

"The monk will turn the sheet over and pull it back, like pulling the good things back in. First we push the bad luck away, then we put the good things in."

While the participants lie in their coffins, monks chant prayers. After this, they emerge from their resting place to be blessed with holy water by a monk.

Krisda Netmanee, a 39-year-old police officer, said he wanted a fresh start after a series of bad work assignments.

"I had bad luck this year. I'm here to wash my bad luck away, and ask for blessings for good things to come," he added.

Others take part in the ritual regularly.

Farmer Ra Damthanin said she has lain within a coffin at least six times in the hopes of a long life.

"I wish to live very long with my children, my neighbors, my sisters," the 62-year-old said.

"I wish to live a very long time."

10 Habits You Must Quit to Be Happy
When you quit doing the wrong things, you make more room for the things that make you happy.  So starting today…

1.  Quit procrastinating on your goals.

Some people dream of success while others wake up and work hard at it.  Action and change are often resisted when they're needed most.  Get a hold of yourself and have discipline.  Putting something off instantly makes it harder and scarier.  What we don't start today won't be finished by tomorrow.  And there's nothing more stressful than the perpetual lingering of an unfinished task.
The secret to getting ahead is simply getting started.  Starting, all by itself, is usually sufficient to build enough momentum to keep the ball rolling.  So forget about the finish line and just concentrate on taking your first step.  Say to yourself, "I choose to start this task with a small, imperfect step."  All those small steps will add up and you'll actually get to see changes fairly quickly.  Read Getting Things Done.

2.  Quit blaming others and making excuses.

Stop blaming others for what you have or don't have, or for what you feel or don't feel.  When you blame others for what you're going through, you deny responsibility and perpetuate the problem.  Stop giving your power away and start taking responsibility for your life.  Blaming is just another sorry excuse, and making excuses is the first step towards failure; you and only you are responsible for your life choices and decisions.

3.  Quit trying to avoid change.

If nothing ever changed there would be no sunrise the next morning.  Most of us are comfortable where we are even though the whole universe is constantly changing around us.  Learning to accept this is vital to our happiness and general success.  Because only when we change, do we grow, and begin to see a world we never knew was possible.
And don't forget, however good or bad a situation is now, it will change.  That's the one thing you can count on.  So embrace it, and realize that change happens for a reason.  It won't always be easy or obvious at first, but in the end it will be worth it.

4.  Quit trying to control the uncontrollable.

If you try to control everything, and then worry about the things you can't control, you are setting yourself up for a lifetime of frustration and misery.
Some forces are out of your control, but you can control how you react to things.  Everyone's life has positive and negative aspects – whether you're happy or not depends greatly on which aspects you focus on.  The best thing you can do is to let go of what you can't control, and invest your energy in the things you can – like your attitude.

5.  Quit talking down to yourself.

Nothing will bring you down quicker than berating yourself.  The mind is a superb instrument if used right, but when used incorrectly, it becomes very destructive.  Be aware of your mental self-talk.  We all talk silently to ourselves in our heads, but we aren't always conscious of what we're saying or how it's affecting us.
As Henry Ford once stated, "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right."  One of the major causes of why we fail is due to self-doubt and negative self-talk.  The way to overcome negative thoughts and destructive emotions is to develop opposing, positive emotions that are stronger and more powerful.  Listen to your self-talk and replace negative thoughts with positive ones, over time you will change the trajectory of your life.  Read The How of Happiness.

6.  Quit criticizing others.

The negativity you bleed out toward others will gradually cripple your own happiness.  When you truly feel comfortable with your own imperfections, you won't feel threatened or offended by the imperfections you see in other people.
So stop worrying about the flaws you see in everyone else, and focus on yourself.  Let the constant growth and improvement in your own life keep you so busy that you have no time left to criticize others.

7.  Quit running from your problems and fears.

Trust me, if everyone threw their problems in a pile for you to see, you would grab yours back.  Tackle your problems and fears swiftly, don't run away from them.  The best solution is to face them head on no matter how powerful they may seem.
Fears, in particularly, stop you from taking chances and making decisions.  They keep you confined to just the small space where you feel completely comfortable.  But your life's story is simply the culmination of many small, unique experiences, many of which require you to stretch your comfort zone.  Letting your fears and worries control you is not 'living,' it's merely existing.
Bottom line:  Either you own your problems and fears, or they will ultimately own you.

8.  Quit living in another time and place.

Some people spend their entire lives trying to live in another time and place.  They lament about what has been, what they could have done, or what might become.  However, the past is gone, and the future doesn't exist.  No matter how much time we spend thinking and lamenting about either, it doesn't change anything.
One of life's sharpest paradoxes is that our brightest future hinges on our ability to pay attention to what we're doing right now, today.
We need to live more in the moment.  Living in the moment requires active, open, intentional awareness on the present.  Don't fantasize about being on vacation while at work, and don't worry about the work piling up on your desk when you're on vacation.  Live for now.  Notice the beauty unfolding around you.

9.  Quit trying to be someone you're not.

One of the greatest challenges in life is being yourself in a world that's trying to make you like everyone else.  Someone will always be prettier, someone will always be smarter, someone will always be younger, but they will never be you.  Don't change so people will like you.  Be yourself and the right people will love you, and you'll love yourself more too.  The Road Less Traveled.

10.  Quit being ungrateful.

Not all the puzzle pieces of life will seem to fit together at first, but in time you'll realize they do, perfectly.  So thank the things that didn't work out, because they just made room for the things that will.  And thank the ones who walked away from you, because they just made room for the ones who won't.
No matter how good or bad you have it, wake up each day thankful for your life.  Someone somewhere else is desperately fighting for theirs.  Instead of thinking about what you're missing, try thinking about what you have that everyone else is missing.

Overcoming FEAR (False Expectations about Reality


Inspire a Fresh Beginning
There are many popular acronyms for the word "fear" but my favorite is "False Expectations about Reality."  This acronym is powerful because it reminds us that many of our worries are about future events that will never come to pass.  False expectations about future reality are obstacles to success.  They sap our energy and take our focus away from actions that would help us realize our dreams.
According to Psychology Today, each of us has between 25,000 and 50,000 thoughts per day.  When the majority of these thoughts are negative, they can shape our mood, motivation and ability to succeed.
Here are some of the false expectations that used to run through my mind – do they sound familiar?
  • I'll never find a loving relationship that will last.
  • If I don't work harder, I'll lose my job.
  • Someday I'll end up homeless.
  • There's no use trying because I'll fail.
  • I won't succeed because I'm not good enough.
Motivational experts say that we need to stop false expectations from looping through our minds if we want our dreams to become a reality.  Once you become aware that these thoughts are not based on reality, you can begin to work on replacing them with positive thoughts and plans for actions.  Although we can't always control our moods, we can definitely control our thoughts.
To overcome false expectations that have become obstacles, you must first identify them.  Do you have persistent negative beliefs that are keeping you from realizing your hopes and dreams?  It may help to track your negative and fear-based thoughts for a few days to see how often they occur.  One way to do this is with a thought journal where you take stock of your negative thinking at the end of the day.  Pay particular attention to the number of times you focused on problems rather than solutions.  Also try to identify the triggers that set your negative thinking in motion.
Not all fear is based on false expectations.  Some fears are real and are based on circumstances that are grounded in reality.  These fears can force us to make decisions and take action.  How to differentiate between false expectations and real worries that are based in reality? Evaluate the probability of a fear coming true in the near future and decide if facing it will bring you closer to realizing your dreams.
Once you have a better understanding about your negative thoughts, replace worries about the future with positive thoughts that are based in the present.  For example, instead of thinking you will never be able to lose weight because you can't give up the fattening food that you love, begin to think of yourself as a healthy person who has a healthy diet and enjoys exercise.  It may seem silly to think this way when it's not true, but positive thoughts can have a powerful influence on the subconscious.  Over time, your new way of thinking will begin to control your actions and create a new reality.
Making lists of the good things in your life is another way to begin thinking more positively.  You'll find it easier to stay motivated when your thinking is inspired by positivity.  If you do encounter failure, learn to see it as a bump in the road rather than a roadblock.  It may slow you down, but don't let it stop you.
I was able to overcome many of my negative thought patterns by reading some of the literature about positive thinking.  The Power of Optimism by Alan Loy McGinnis was an important book for me.  Other authors who cover the subject of positive thinking include Martin Seligman, M. Scott Peck, Dale Carnegie and Dr. Norman Vincent Peale (who many credit as the founder of the positive thinking movement).

Our self-belief has a profound effect on our confidence and on the quality of our lives. If a person believes that he lacks basic skills to solve problems then he may lose heart and give up. In contrast, a person who has less abilities but who believes in himself stands a much better chance of being successful. This is because his self-belief gives him the confidence to try.
 
Have you ever wondered why only a few students in a class ask questions? Is it because the others have understood all the points made during a lecture? Or is it because they lack the confidence to ask a question? More often than not, it is the fear of making a fool of themselves that stops students from asking questions. In other words, they lack self-confidence. The only way this confidence can improve is when they start believing in themselves.
 
This is why self-belief is so important. It gives an individual the confidence to aim for the moon. It overwhelms negative thoughts, and drives away the fear of failure. It is the best antidote against self-flagellation, which turns several talented persons into under-achievers. It gives the students the confidence that they have nothing to loose. On the contrary, they realize that they have everything to gain by asking a question, even if it happens to be a silly question.
 
Abraham Lincoln is a fine example of a man who believed in himself. He lost every election until he went to the Senate and stood for the post of the President. He did not allow his failures in professional and personal life to erode his self-belief. Had he done so, the history of the US would have been different.
 
Self-belief gives us the confidence to accept failure. It teaches us the importance of positive thinking. Those who have self-esteem don't talk about failures; instead, they try to find out why they did not succeed. They look for lessons that can be learnt from their experience. This is not a simple issue of semantics. It is the power of positive thinking, and it is available to only those who have self-esteem.
 
Once again it is self-esteem that gives us the confidence to enter a new group, and become a part of it. Those who lack self-esteem are very reluctant to approach a new group. They don't want to expose themselves to the ridicule of being seen as shy, nervous or ignorant. They would instead prefer to stay in their corners.
 
In fact, lack of self-esteem stands out like a sore thumb at parties, at meetings, at conferences and at social or official functions. Individuals with low self-esteem avoid introducing themselves to others. They prefer to stay in the shadows, away from the sights of others. However, their colleagues who enjoy high self-esteem dominate the discussions. They are sought after by others for information. They are also invited to other meetings and parties -- all because their self-esteem gives them the confidence to open up before a group of strangers. It is the same student syndrome that is reflected in an individual's working life too.
 
Low self-esteem also lowers an individual's self-confidence. He takes to liquor or drugs to boost his confidence artificially. Nothing can be more futile or dangerous. Such behavior further destroys an individual's self-esteem. The best way to break out of this pitiable situation is to build self-esteem, which is not easy.  The individual has few options but to begin life afresh. The best is to look for a new workplace and a new set of friends, because it is easy to deal with people who have no preconceived notions about you.
 
But nothing will work until the individual develops self-respect and the self-belief that he is as good as others. He must realize that he is not the only one who has strong and weak points; the others too suffer from the same defects. The only difference is that the others project their strong points whereas he projects his weak points. All that he needs is to refocus his priorities. He will find the elusive self-confidence.

Today I'll show you the huge benefits  of using
'Repetitive Writing'.

Aaaargh! Now stay with me here...

The Repetitive Writing mind technique  is not as
'exciting' as some of the other  techniques, but
its benefits far outweigh the 10 minutes that it
will take you to  complete this task!

Writing out your desires over and over  again will
further influence your  subconscious mind -- which
if you haven't  guessed by now is the KEY to
achieving all  your desires and dreams. Yes, all
of them!

This mind technique takes different aspects  from:

1) Affirmation Imprinting (creating  powerful,
effective statements of your  desired outcomes..

2) Subliminal Messaging (flooding your
subconscious mind every day with your  desired
outcomes) and..

3) Ideal Day Generation (unleashing the  magic of
writing down your thoughts and  feelings)....

Like I said earlier, the actual 'process'  of
writing down your statements will  become boring
very quickly.  

I urge you to do it anyway.  

Is brushing your teeth fun?  Hardly,  but you do
it anyway because you want  your teeth to be and
feel healthy (and  to avoid the drill next time
you visit  the dentist!)

It seems that mean old 3rd grade teacher ALMOST
got it right....

She, like most people using affirmations,
structured the statements incorrectly.   She
focused on the negative.

Like when she told you to write the  sentence "I
will not talk in class" fifty  times on the
blackboard.  

As you already know, the subconscious sees  in
images and can't visualize the word "not."  

In the example I just gave you, all it  recognizes
and "sees" are images of "I",  "talk", and "in
class."

The well-meaning teacher thereby "reinforces  the
exact opposite behavior than she had  intended".  

And guess what happened the next day?  

You got in trouble for talking in class  again!
And how did the teacher discipline  you?  

You guessed it.  She had you writing those
sentences again, unknowingly reinforcing  your
negative behavior!

As you know, to re-program your mind  effectively
with 'positive' behaviors,  I wholeheartedly
recommend the success  accelerator videos.

Imagine having thousands of positive  life
altering affirmations flooding your  subconscious
mind every day?

It's very powerful. 

So let's now put this information into  practical
application.

YOUR ACTION PLAN FOR 'REPETITIVE
WRITING':

STEP 1:  Just Three...

Pick a maximum of three behaviors you  would like
to change.

Ideally, you would want to work on just  one
first, until you started to see your  intended
desires materialize, before  moving onto other
goals.  

And if you really want to accelerate the  process,
pick the same goal as the one  you are working on
with your Affirmation  Imprinting.

STEP 2:  Meet the 3 "P's"

Make sure that your sentence is formatted
properly.  

This is the exact same step you used when  you
created your affirmations.  

To recap, your sentence should be personal,
positive, and present tense.

STEP 3:  A private book

Buy a spiral notebook.  You will be using  this to
write your sentences in.  Having  a central place
is much more effective  than writing on whatever
scrap of paper  you happen to find.  

Sometimes you won't remember if you wrote  your
sentences out that morning or not.   Having one
place to look to find out will  solve this.

STEP 4:  Make your statement 'real'

Write the date at the top of the page  and write
your sentence over and over  again on each line
until it fills up  the entire page.   

An average spiral notebook is between  25-30 lines
per page side.

From personal experience I find this to  be the
perfect amount of times to write  your sentence.

You will do this exercise first thing  each
morning, and then again just before  going to
sleep at night.  

Once your subconscious mind fully absorbs  the
statement you are trying to send it  and provides
you with the tools to make  it a reality -- only
then would you  start with your next desired
change!


** Remember**: Repetition influences your
subconscious  mind - and influencing your
subconscious  belief system (with your desired
outcome)  is the golden *key* to reaching your
goals  and dreams.

This is why subliminal messaging can  have such a
powerful - and unexpected  impact on people's
lives.

In a month?  A year?  Ten years?  Next
Tuesday?

PUT THE ODDS IN YOUR FAVOR...

To raise the odds of having the life
you always wanted, you must first write
down exactly how you would like that life
to be. 

Makes sense, right? 

It's going to serve as your guiding light. 
Whenever faced with a decision, you will
now be able to think:

"Will choosing this bring me closer or
further away from My Ideal Day?" 

This should quicken the time it takes to
make decisions...

...and will GREATLY improve the choices that
you make!

Not only that - but it will be your
"snapshot" into the future.
